Shastika Shali Pinda Sweda, also termed as Navarakizhi in Ayurveda is a therapy intended to stimulate the functions and building the immunity. It is preformed to cure an array of health problems from muscle spasms and pains to muscular skeleton disorders.

Shastika refers to a unique kind of paddy carrying lots of medicinal properties. The paddy is also called as Navara or Njavara. Pinda refers to a ball of cooking rice. The cooked rice is wrapped in a soft cloth and massaged all over the body. It is a hot therapy where the techniques of Abhyanga, the traditional Oil massage are followed.

How it is performed:

 As indicated by its name, the special paddy i.e the rice is cooked with authentic Ayurvedic concoctions and made into rice bolous. The cooked rice is tied in a cloth, which is called Kizhi. The kizhi is dipped in medicated milk and is applied with controlled pressure all over the body. The cloth that wraps the cooked rice should be soft; something like a muslin bag and the rice is cooked to paste. The Kizhi should be hot to perform this therapy. Sometimes, herbal mixture is also used as an alternative to milk to dip the Kizhi.
